New Hilton Set For Leeds

Construction is beginning on a new Hampton by Hilton hotel in Leeds, in the first stage of the redevelopment set for Bridge Street.

Insider Media reported on the start of the project, which will eventually become a 2.45 acre urban destination with the 14-storey hotel at the heart of the development.

In addition to the hotel, a second phase of development will deliver a number of new homes in this prominent city-centre location. The hotel is expected to open by the end of 2019, and will have 192 beds.

Construction firm Robertson has been lined up to work on the hotel, with the whole development consortium being led by Singapore developer Heeton Holdings Ltd.

Edwin Liu, country head (UK and Europe) at Heeton Holdings Ltd, told the news provider that the company was really pleased to see construction get underway.

“The area has transformed in recent years and we are confident that the hotel and the rest of this fantastic scheme will help continue the positive impact on the city centre,” he stated.

Leader of Leeds City Council Judith Blake welcomed the development noting that Leeds as a city is “seeing impressive growth” in terms of business and leisure tourism. She added that this project is a “sign of confidence in Leeds”.

This project in the centre of Leeds is far from the only major construction scheme happening in the city – back in July the city council unveiled its housing and transport proposals, which involve building 5,000 new homes.
