New Leeds Apartment Block Set For Approval
Planning officers in Leeds have recommended that the city council’s planning committee approve a scheme to develop a new block of apartments for private rental.
Construction News reported that the Radius scheme, which has been put forward by developer CityLife, will feature 224 flats, as well as commercial space on the ground floor of the building.
If it is approved, the building will be located on Whitehall Road in Holbeck. At 16 storeys high, it’s a sizeable development and one that the Leeds Civic Trust has said will revamp “an unloved corner” of Holbeck.
Nick Brown Architects designed Radius, with the publication noting that it has been altered since its initial planning application. The number of flats increased from 215 to 224, and the building’s lowest point has gone up from three storeys to four.
There is a lot of construction work being planned in the city at present, which could see a growing number of construction firms seeking steel cladding sheets for the work they’re carrying out.
Earlier this month, Leeds City Council approved a significant regeneration scheme for the Hunslet Riverside, which will see old historic buildings being brought back into use, and a host of new transport links being established to better connect this part of the city with the rest of the centre.
The council has carried out 70 public events as part of its consultation over the scheme, and has taken on board feedback from members of the public about transport links as well as pedestrian and cycle connectivity.
