Consultation Begins For New Housing In Middleton, Leeds

The early plans for a new council housing development in Middleton, Leeds are entering the consultation phase, before a full planning application is submitted, South Leeds Life reported.

Leeds City Council has appointed Wates Construction to carry out the project, which is set to deliver 176 new properties on the Throstle Rec site in Middleton. These will include extra care apartments, general needs housing and bungalows for disabled adults.

In total, 2.27 hectares of the land on the site will be kept as green space that can be enjoyed by the public, for everything from play to dog walking.

As part of the consultation process, the developers are keen to get the views of people who currently use the land to find out what improvements and facilities they would like to see.

Councillor Paul Truswell, speaking on behalf of his fellow Middleton Park councillors Kim Groves and Judith Blake, stated: “Half of the Throstle Rec site will provide much-needed new council homes. The other half will be greatly improved open space.”

He also explained that the council is working with the Wades Charity, which owns half of the site, in addition to consulting with local residents to ensure that the public space is an area that people want to use.

This development will help Leeds City Council as it aims to create 1,500 new council homes in the next five years.

Earlier this month, the West Leeds Dispatch reported that plans to build 152 new houses, of which 100 will be affordable homes, have been approved for Leeds City College’s former Horsforth campus.
