Manchester Top For Construction Jobs ‘Outside Of London’

As a proudly Hull-based business providing corrugated roofing sheets, we’re big believers of their being ‘life outside of London’, and a new survey has looked into the top spots across the UK for construction jobs, excluding the capital.

Reported by Planning and Building Control Today, the research provided by data researchers Adzuna, looked the places in the UK which had the most openings in construction jobs, as inflated rent, sky high house prices and higher cost of living drives more and more workers from the city.

The research found that Manchester hit the heights of trade and construction jobs, with over 30 per cent of the total available from the top five cities on the list, sitting at 2,401 opportunities.

Second place Bristol came in nine per cent lower, followed by Birmingham, Leeds and Reading – the latter of which had less than half the opportunities available as Manchester.

However, the survey also revealed that Manchester construction workers were not the best paid. Birmingham topped that category, with an average salary of £38,842. Leeds workers were the lowest paid of the top five cities, with a £34,437 average annual salary.

The demand for roles in the construction sector has also been revealed to have increased by 77 per cent year on year, despite forewarning of another downturn in the industry. Vacancies rose from 53,000 to over 93,500 in this short time. This makes it the second fastest growing sector for jobs in the UK, just behind manufacturing and signifies a real demand for skilled workers for future projects.
