Two Major Construction Projects In Leeds Awarded
Construction firms have been selected for two big construction projects in Leeds – one for Leeds University and the other for Elliott Hudson College.
Galliford Try has won the £29.5 million project to construct the University of Leeds’ Nexus innovation and gateway building. The building will have six floors and will be used to foster collaboration between the university and local firms in the technology sector.
The ground and first floors will be triple height spaces, while the remaining floors will be office and lab space that’s available to rent.
Elsewhere, BAM Construction has been chosen by Elliott Hudson College to build its new sixth form college building, in a contract worth £11.1 million.
The aim of this project is to bring students and staff together, who are currently split across two separate buildings within the sixth form.
Rather than building from scratch, the scheme will involve renovating a former data centre on the White Rose Office Park. BAM will overlay the existing roof and install new perimeter glazing as part of the project.
John Scahill, bid manager for BAM, commented: “This unique facility will bring the college together under one roof and deliver a dynamic learning environment.”
Once it is completed, the college will have 1,000 sixth form places and will be able to offer more than 30 A-level courses to students from the local area.
